    Michel Farin, President of Royal White Star Woluwe F.C, Mr Guy Boulle, Iris Euro Tournament director, the management board of White Star and the organisational committee of the Iris Euro Tournament extend their warm thanks to all who were present and offered their support and thus made this event a real footballing feast.

    Thanks to all the club volunteers, parents, trainers and delegates, the commune staff and those of the Stade Communal, the catering manager and the bar and canteen staff who were all present and correct and on demand at the drop of a hat.

    Our appreciation goes to all our sponsors.

    Also to Eric Bott, sports councillor for Woluwé Saint-Lambert.

    Not forgetting the Presdient of the Brussels Capital Region, Charles Picqué.

    And of course Mr Vanhengel, Finance and External Relations minister of the BCR.

    Last but not least Mr Emir Kir, sports minister at the Cocof.

    No sooner have we finished with the 2008 tournament than people are asking about 2009! What about dates? What about teams?

    J - 1

    All the teams are expected today at Brussels (except Leverkusen 04 and Lille OSC who get here on Saturday morning). Inter Milan and AS Roma and Sheffield Utd will get here by plane. Olympique Lyonnais is coming down via TGV. All the others are wending their way down with their own club vehicles.

    At the opening ceremony on Saturday 10 May at 14:00pm the organisational committee will call a minute of silence on behalf of François Sterchele, player of KV Brugge who passed away on Wednesday while on his vehicle.

  • Even though we had received confirmation that the English team West Ham Utd would replace Tottenham Hotspur, who were unable to come due to a clash with exams, now the West Ham boys say they have the same problem – ergo, they’re not coming either!

    We shook the earth to find a replacement, appealing to all the tournament organisers in Belgium and finally we’ve got a Dutch first division team who were still free, apparently, and have agreed to replace the Hammers in the forthcoming games.

    They’re called Willem II Tilburg, and have just as good a reputation as Ajax.

    We’ll be delighted to be able to meet them next weekend.

    So this is how pool E stands – and this is the final version, promise:

  • The draw took place yesterday evening at Woluwé Saint Lambert in a terrific atmosphere and an audience 'in the know', during which we had the pleasure of receiving representatives from several professional and provincial clubs.

    Sports journalists also assisted - both from French- and Dutch-speaking dailies (information: article in the Dernière Heure of 31 January 2008), in addition to several Brussels political figures - headed by Eric Bott, Sports Councillor of Woluwé Saint Lambert.

  • The 2008 draw will take place on Tuesday 29 January at 19:30 at "La Rotonde", Avenue Jean-François Debeckerlaan, 54 to B - 1200 BRUSSELS.

    It will be presented by Mr Rodrigo Benkens (R.T.B.F.) and Guy Boulle (Tournament Director) and is by invitation-only.

  • Our sports centre, which has already played host to a number of prestigious sporting events, will see, on 10 and 11 May 2008, the inaugural Iris Euro Tournament for under - 12s. Several prestigious international teams, such as Juventus FC - Inter Milan FC - Olympique Lyonnais - Dinamo Zagreb - RSC Anderlecht - Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Lille OSC - Club Brugge KV - Borussia M'Gladbach - Sheffield United FC - 1FC Köln, and many more, will take part in the tournament, which was organised by Royal White Star Woluwé FC.

    Clearly the infrastructure of the site, one of the grandest in Belgium, was one of the key factors that swayed the organisers' decision to select it. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to Mr Bott, sports councillor for Woluwé Saint–Lambert and Mr Farin, club president, for the constant dedication they showed in organising this event, for under - 12s, which I find particularly special. As an ardent advocate of sport in general, I have always been convinced of its merits. On the other hand, a tournament such as this allows the young people who take part to cement firm friendships, which is certainly the most important thing as we move into the future.
